The foreground is a part of the archeological dig at the Agora, the old marketplace in Athens Greece. Because it looks like an ordinary construction site we think of employees who could get hurt by falling or by something falling on them. Safety is more than dealing with the injury of workers. The cowboy Safety approach uses a multidisciplinary holistic approach within the business model to deal with other factors that would fit within a customized definition of safety.
Step 7 of the Cowboy Safety process involves finding these other factors. At the Agora in the summer of 2008 there were at least 17. They are not readily visible because we tend to think about safety in a limited way.
In developing customized programs this workshop takes place. There is a new view of the business and the hazards. The result is a new way of thinking. As a result there is a vision of what is really important and there is improved performance at a lower cost.
By adapting old ideas to new problems there is improved financial performance and fewer injuries.
