On February 18, 2010 the Wyoming legislature passed a bill adopting a state code as derived from the book, "Cowboy Ethics," by James P. Owen:
1 Live each day with courage
2 Take pride in your work
3 Always finish what you start
4 Do what has to be done
5 Be tough, but fair
6 When you make a promise, keep it
7 Ride for the brand
8 Talk less and say more
9 Remember that some things aren't for sale
10 Know where to draw the line
Some have been critical of this code. It is what Wyoming stands for. This new legislation puts it in code. The following is a video of the signing by Governor David Freudenthal (D)
Cowboy Safety is an application of the Code of the West. It is an alternative to the expensive and bureaucratic compliance programs that produce no results. By building safety on the Code of the West safety becomes people-oriented and results focused.
